Research Project – AssistVC | 2024–2027 | Grant Number 01IS24026B
Starting point of the project
The process of manufacturing a machine or piece of equipment can be broadly divided into the phases of planning, design, manufacturing and assembly, and commissioning. The virtual commissioning process also makes it possible to conduct tests to detect errors even during the development process.
A key challenge in the early stages of virtual commissioning is that, for models not yet available in the manufacturer’s model library, new models must first be created, which is a time-consuming process.
This is where the “AssistVC” research project comes in.
The goal is to develop an intelligent assistance system that replaces missing components in an overall simulation model using AI-based decision-making logic.
Based on detailed process descriptions and an analysis of related components, well-founded proposals for the creation of substitute models are developed and presented. The approach is based on symbolic AI methods that function like an expert system. These methods not only ensure precision and structure but also enable clear traceability of the decision-making processes.
The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research pursuant to a resolution of the German Bundestag.
