Predictive Maintenance Solution for Mid-Sized Businesses
With the help of the ROTH Group’s remote maintenance solution, customers across a wide range of industries can reap the benefits of digitalization. ROTH recognized the advantages of remote maintenance early on and has been leveraging its capabilities for several years now.
Whereas in the past a technician would travel to a customer’s site to fix a problem or perform maintenance on a machine, today this can often be done remotely—faster and more cost-effectively. To do this, quality data from workpieces or machine performance metrics are collected; based on this data, it is often possible to respond to deviations before a problem even arises. This benefits both parties: the customer’s problem can be resolved immediately without a technician having to travel to the site, and at ROTH, service calls have less impact on project planning because the technician can access the systems even when he is at the plant or with other customers.
With the goal of further optimizing its service, ROTH sought a solution that would allow it to analyze data from machines at various locations in a central database and use the results for predictive maintenance.
ROTH opted for a solution from Endian, a security vendor specializing in Industry 4.0. Endian enables secure and highly scalable access to a large number of endpoints with an equally large number of concurrent connections. The solution is based on Unified Threat Management (UTM), often referred to as a next-generation firewall. These devices integrate multiple security functions to defend against complex threats. Endian stores the log files and provides comprehensive monitoring. Every connection is secured via an SSL-based VPN tunnel.
But Endian isn’t the only essential component of remote maintenance. With the help of Amazon Web Services (AWS) products, we were able to create a platform that adapts flexibly depending on usage. Thanks to AWS, machine data can be consolidated in a central location, and analyses of a plant’s optimal operating conditions can be evaluated much more precisely. This allows production processes to be optimized and downtime to be minimized.
